Salons we love: LIV the Studio

Posted by Kayce Sebree on

Verb started out of a salon and we know that if it wasn't for our biggest and hardest working fans, stylists, that Verb wouldn't be where we are today. Today we are highlighting one of the amazing salons that carry Verb.

Interview with LIV the studio's (Flowood, MS), owner and Verb lover, Olivia Barrett.

We caught up with salon owner Olivia Barrett to talk about her experience running a salon and she gave us "non-stylists" advice about how to achieve those fun hairstyles you've always wanted (keep reading) . When she's not giving the gift of great hair you can catch her hanging out with her husband and their "fur babies" Oscar & Louie. Olivia also recently started her own youtube channel, check it out for fun hair tutorials.

How long have you been a stylist/how did you get started?

I have been a stylist for almost 5 years now! I always knew I had a calling for hairdressing. It took me years to muster up the courage to do it. When I was a vocal major (yes- I sang opera!), I finally decided that wasn't what I would be happy doing with my life. So I watched a bunch of hair tutorials on YouTube one night and finally put in an application for hair school. Best decision I've EVER made!

What's your personal philosophy as a stylist?

Have fun and be confident! I think both of those things are very important when being a stylist.

What do you love about running a salon?

I've been a suite owner for 2 years- and I absolutely love it! I have more artistic freedom and my clients love it. It's like my own little creative space! recently expanded my little salon with a bigger suite and a wonderful assistant, Jasmine. She's been a great help and is a quick learner!

How would you describe the brand and look of your salon?

I feel like my salon has a comfortable yet unique vibe to it. LIV the studio is fun and social media forward. We are known for taking "hair selfies" of our clients all the time. They love it!

What is your favorite Verb product?

Verb is awesome!!! The products do what they say and I love that you can cocktail products together. The scent is so refreshing too! I am all about texture- so my favorite products are Sea Spray and Curl Cream

What’s the best hair advice you could give all of us “non-stylists"/ or that you've ever received?

Watch YouTube and videos online. It's the best way to learn sometimes. Experiment and try something new! Hair is suppose to be fun! People ask me all the time- "Where did you learn that?!". Most of the time it was something I found online!

We couldn't agree more, YouTube is a great resource for finding out about new hairstyles and how to achieve them on those days you can't visit your favorite stylist. Check out our recent post with our favorite school/heatless/quick YouTube tutorials here.
