Salons we love: Los Pastel

Posted by Kayce Sebree on

Verb started out of a salon and we know that if it wasn't for our biggest and hardest working fans - stylists, we wouldn't be where we are today. In this edition of  “Salons We Love,” we are highlighting another one of the amazing salons that carry Verb: Los Pastel.

Interview with Grace Clayton, Owner of Los Pastel (Perth, Western Australia) + fellow Verb fanatic

Catering exclusively to blondies, Los Pastel is an L.A-inspired, ultra chill creative studio where beautiful platinum and pastel hues run wild. We recently caught up with Los Pastel owner, Grace Clayton to pick her brain about her experience being a salon owner, her stylist philosophy, and some spot-on hair advice for all of us “non-stylists” out there.

How long have you been a stylist/how did you get started?

I have been hairdressing for 12 years, first starting my apprenticeship in a small country town because I wanted to leave school at the time!

What's your personal philosophy as a stylist?

I believe the hair you create should be hair that you would wear yourself! Your love and creativity will always transfer through your work if you believe in what you are doing!

What do you love about running a salon?

What I love about running a salon is that you have complete creative control over what you are producing, and the environment you create. (Which we totally have a huge crush on her design aesthetic so great job)

How would you describe the brand and look of your salon?

When I opened the studio, I wanted to create a laid back, non-hair salon vibe... and all of my inspo for decorating came from L.A! the crisp, clean colours and minimal style. I would say we are beach meets street.

When you're not busy at the salon what do you do with your time?

When I’m not in the studio, I am at the beach with my two Boston Terriers - Boris & Blue. Or shopping!

Why do you carry Verb and what's your personal favorite product?

I first took an interest in Verb because of the minimalist and edgy branding.. also because of it coming out of Austin, relating to my American interest. And the price range! It’s a great way to introduce clients who have been stuck on using cheap supermarket stuff! Yuck! My fave product is the Ghost Hairspray - I love the super fine mist and dry texture it can create for styling!

What's the best hair advice you could give all of us "non-stylists"?

The best hair advice I could give for non-stylists is to always work with what you’ve got! Don’t try to force something that your hair doesn’t want to do! If you have unruly curls, then go with it!

We hope you loved hearing from Grace just as much as we enjoyed chatting with her. Interested in hearing more from Grace? Good! She’ll be doing a takeover of the Verb Instagram account within the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.
